A man who pled guilty in the hit-and-run death of a 5-year-old Phoenix girl has been sentenced to 27 years in prison.

Wilson Gilberto Alba-Cano, 28, was sentenced Thursday after police said he hit and killed 5-year-old Annabel Sandoval and injured several others in an auto collision last year.

Police said that on October 21, 2007, Alba-Cano failed to yield the right of way at an intersection in South Phoenix. Alba-Cano struck another vehicle, killing Annabel and leaving her 7-year-old brother, Manuel, with a broken leg. Three other people in the victim's car were also injured.

Police said that Alba-Cano had a blood alcohol content of .244 at the time, which is three times the legal limit of 0.08.

Officials said that Alba-Cano told police that he fled the scene because he was in the country illegally and did not want to be arrested and deported.

Alba-Cano was sentenced to 15 years for manslaughter and 12 years for aggravated assault.
