Minutemen Say Smugglers Are Getting Smarter

The Minutemen said illegal immigrant smugglers are getting smarter as the border watchers wrap up their Arizona patrol.
About 250 volunteers spotted nearly 1,400 illegals outside Sasabe in southern Arizona. Minuteman state director Gene Casarelli says that led to 391 apprehensions by the Border Patrol. That's down a bit from last year.

"I think the coyotes are more sophisticated. They're running larger groups. They immediately scatter knowing by the time they get close to us they're not that far from a highway," Casarelli said.

Casarelli said the coyotes are far more organized.

"They're more sophisticated, they have more to lose and so we're facing a more determined, clever and sophisticated type," Casarelli said.

Casarelli said the typical coyote can make $20,000 per border run.
