MLK Day speaker lauds Mesa's immigration stance

A breakfast meeting in Mesa dedicated to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. turned to talks of immigration Monday morning when a state legislator paralleled the actions of the civil rights leader with those of East Valley leaders.

Most notably, Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Phoenix, lauded Mesa Police Chief George Gascón for “refusing to give in to the anti-immigrant hysteria, but standing together with the City Council to protect the citizens of Mesa.â€
