Hartford City Council Mandates Protection for Illegals
Hartford City Council Mandates Protection for Illegals
By Guest Author Mike Pechar
(Hartford, Connecticut) Hartford has been a de facto sanctuary city for illegals for some time and now a city ordinance is before Mayor Eddie Perez to sign, formalizing specific protections for illegal aliens.
The ordinance prohibits police from arresting or detaining illegals in accordance with an immigration warrant and prohibits any city employee from asking about immigration status.
Although Perez has said he supports the concept behind the ordinance, it is not clear whether he will sign it.
He has maintained that an order issued by Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts in March that said city police would not make immigration arrests unless there was also a criminal investigation was adequate.
In a letter to the council Monday, Perez expressed concern about "codifying standards for internal police matters in the city code."
Frankly, if law enforcers are going to prosecute employers who lure illegals into the U.S., it would make sense to also go after the officials of sanctuary cities for the same reason.

Hartford city council OK's immigration ordinance
August 12, 2008
HARTFORD, Conn. - Hartford's city council has approved a new ordinance that would bar police from asking people about their immigration status.
The ordinance, passed Monday, would need to be signed by Mayor Eddie Perez to become law.
It would prevent police from arresting or detaining anyone solely because immigration authorities had issued an administrative warrant for them, which is a civil matter.
Although Perez has said he supports the concept, it's not clear whether he will sign the new ordinance.
The mayor has said that an order issued by Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts in March is adequate. Under the order, Hartford police will not make immigration arrests unless there is also a criminal investigation involved.

So I'm reading that they're having all kinds of shootings, youth violence and have imposed a curfew for youths in the city. I wonder why this would happen?
