AZ-Sheriff does immigration operation in East Valley

Sheriff does immigration operation in East Valley
    August 27th, 2008 @ 10:15am
    by KTAR Newsroom

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office served search warrants in the East Valley Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into alleged violations of Arizona's employers' sanctions law.

Deputies detained about three-dozen people. They included suspected illegal immigrants, people wanted on arrest warrants and people suspected of criminal fraud.

The employers' sanctions law, which took effect early this year, provides stiff penalties for people and companies that knowingly employ illegal immigrants.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio and County Attorney Andrew Thomas scheduled a news conference at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to provide more details of the operation.

Sheriff's office raids Mesa landscaping company

PHOENIX (AP) -- Authorities have raided several locations of a Phoenix-area landscaping business, arresting nearly three dozen people, some of whom are believed to be illegal immigrants.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office served the search warrants at Artistic Land Management in Mesa and Chandler on Wednesday morning.

The sheriff's office says they are investigating potential violations of Arizona's new employer sanctions law.

Calls to the company were not immediately returned.

In June, the sheriff's office arrested nine illegal immigrants at two amusement parks in Mesa and north Phoenix and said the bust might lead to an employer sanctions case. So far it has not.

No employer sanctions cases have been brought to court since the law took effect in January.

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.
