AZ-Study: 9 hate groups in Valley, 19 in Ariz.

Study: 9 hate groups in Valley, 19 in Ariz.
    1 commentby Nathan Gonzalez - Mar. 18, 2009 07:32 AM

Arizona's continuing illegal immigration debate represents one element behind the nation's resurgence in the number of hate groups, including two Mesa organizations named in a recently released national study.

Over eight years, the nation's hate groups have grown 54 percent since 2000, according to a report published by the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center.

In Mesa, the study identified the Nationalist Coalition, a neo-Nazi group, and the Vinlanders Social Club, a group labeled racist skinhead. To the east in Apache Junction, the study counted the neo-Nazi group National Socialist Movement (NSM).
Across the Valley, five hate groups were in Phoenix, while a branch of the Ku Klux Klan was listed in Tempe and an Arian Nation group located in Goodyear, according to the study.

The center and its report "Year in Hate" identified 926 active hate groups nationwide. That was an increase of 4 percent from 2007, when 888 groups were identified.

Under the study's definitions, 19 hate groups were identified as operating within the state, including the Nation of Islam, a group whose Web site clearly displays "Peace be unto you."

Of the groups named, 10 were listed as neo-Nazi organizations and one included the Colorado City sect of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day .

Mesa Police Sgt. Ed Wessing said he was unversed in the city's two identified hate groups and was unable to speak to them.

Repeated attempts to contact Officer Matt Browning, who investigated such groups for more than 12 years, were unsuccessful.

Browing worked undercover with three border militia groups and six White-supremacist organizations in Arizona. In a meeting with state lawmakers in 2007, Browning said the growing topic of debate at hate group gatherings was immigration.

"Every meeting revolved around immigration," Browning said at the time.

In recent years hate groups were animated by fears of Latino immigration, the study states. FBI figures show the rise of anti-immigrant hate groups coincided with a 40 percent growth in hate crimes against Latinos from 2003 to 2007, the study states.

Two new factors were introduced to expansion of hate groups last year, the study said - the faltering economy and the election of President Barack Obama.

"Barack Obama's election has inflamed racist extremists who see it as another sign that their country is under siege by non-whites," said Mark Potok, editor of the Intelligence Report, the center's quarterly investigative journal that published the study.

    Why wasn`t " The Race " listed as a hate group ???

So, did the hate groups include La Raza, SPLC, Black Muslims, MS13, the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, NAACP, Obama's church....good grief. Who decides what constitutes a hate group anyway? Are Philadelphia Eagles fans a hate group because they cannot stand the Dallas Cowboys? Every group, whether it is white supremacist or black supremacist; skin head; neo-Nazi, Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, Independent, church related, Wicca related, or whatever has the right to exist. They have the right to their beliefs. They do not have the right to commit violence on others, nor promote it. They do not have the right to advocate violent overthrow of the government. Moreover, none of these groups has any more rights than the rest, nor do they have any more constraints (Or at least that is the way it should be if we follow the Constitution). I am sick of advocacy groups pulling the 'hate' card to mis-label any who disagree with their position, and I am particularly sick of politicians who glom onto this in order to establish, maintain, or expand their power base. Control freaks like Pelosi need to understand that this behavior is what is un-American, not enforcing immigration laws, or any other laws.

    Obama'sWashington # 1 Hate group of Americans.

4thHorseman, In your hate group list, which I think it excellent, I’d make one change, this time around just add the Democratic aka Communist party not the Republicans because they are largely opposed to illegal immigration and fought against the Un-Stimulus bill. We better support Rep. or we will be forever one party system under the Obama regime.

You can't put Bush into the category of Republican because he and the dominant Democratic house and senate were in agreement. The Republicans were not in agreement with Bush over immigration and other important issues. Check out senate.org to see how the parties have voted on various issues. I also watch C-span.

oldguy, it has become absurd, if you are white, you are expected to pay for all the other minorities, while they call you names, and act as if every bad thing in their lives was your fault. It's Nonsense .

As an example of the stupidity and racism against white people in our country, A week or so ago, I saw a TV program on prime time, that talked about all the hate crimes against Hispanics, ironically the TV program lumped illegals and American Hispanics into one group. And the TV show made it seem like whites were the racial group perpetrating these horrible crimes. The reality is that the majority of crimes perpetrated on American Hispanics are lodged against them by illegal Hispanics. Also, another program must be aired to tell the story of all the brutal crimes perpetrated on innocent white populations by illegals and other minority groups. Fair is fair.
Even with that being said, I think Americans have to be very careful about not getting into race wars, I believe our Gov't would love us to get into a race war, so they could apply the strategy, divide and conquer.
