Cochise County sheriff’s deputies recovered the bodies of two suspected illegal immigrants over the weekend in separate incidents.
On Saturday at 8:04 p.m., deputies were called by Border Patrol agents who said they had found the remains of what appeared to be a woman in the hills east of the Gold Gulch area between Bisbee and Douglas, a press release said.
Agents told deputies who arrived that they had been following a group of illegal immigrants when they came upon the remains in a remote area north of a road, the release said. Deputies found the body face up and in the advance stages of decomposition.
Due to the rough terrain, the Cochise County search and rescue team was called out to the scene to recover the body and take her to the Cochise County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The second body was found on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. when two hikers discovered a body on High Lonesome Road northeast of Bisbee, the release said. The hikers called the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and deputies recovered the body, which appeared to be a man. The body was in the beginning stages of decomposition, the release said.
No foul play is suspected with either body and the Mexican Consulate was notified of the findings.
With these two bodies, there have now been 14 illegal immigrants found dead in Cochise County this year, compared with 12 through the same date last year, information from the medical examiner’s office shows.
