Border Patrol Stops Vehicle Loaded with Illegal Immigrants; Cabbie Flees

Yuma, Ariz. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma, Ariz. sector, apprehended 10 illegal immigrants today after the driver of a taxi cab fled the moving vehicle following a pursuit by agents.

Border Patrol agents patrolling near Andrade, Calif., received a citizen’s report of a suspicious vehicle at 3 a.m. An agent located the vehicle, a local taxi cab and initiated a vehicle stop. The driver failed to yield and the agent followed the taxi through a Yuma neighborhood until the driver and front passengers fled the vehicle and ran into a nearby apartment complex near the intersection of 10th Avenue and 2nd Street.

The driverless vehicle continued down 10th Avenue with the doors open, striking a parked vehicle. Agents saw an occupant trying to steer the vehicle from the backseat. Eventually, the vehicle came to a stop after traveling two blocks.

Agents on scene immediately checked the vehicle and located five subjects in the back seat of the Crown Victoria and five more in the trunk. None had sustained any injuries as a result of the actions of the driver. All 10 Mexican national subjects were taken into custody and later transported to the Yuma Border Patrol station for processing.

The driver is being sought in connection with the smuggling incident. Yuma Police officers also responded to the accident scene and are investigating. Additionally, they are seeking the driver for possible prosecution on charges of hit and run, fleeing the scene of a crime and endangerment.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.

They're pouring in folks - Bush has rang that darn amnesty bell again! I'm sure all this amnesty talk has them coming in droves.
