Yavapai County has signed on to a program that will allow sheriff's deputies to receive specialized training to enforce federal immigration laws.

Sheriff Steve Waugh said 10 officers, including six detention officers, will undergo the training with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

After earning this qualification, the detention officers can determine the legal status of anyone being held at the county jails.
