(Wednesday, September 24, 2008)

Yuma, Arizona – Border Patrol agents assigned to Yuma Station arrested a subject in possession of stolen railroad property early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 7 a.m., an agent performing traffic operations on Ogilby Road near Interstate 8, observed a gold four-door sedan traveling south at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle passed the agent the subject slowed considerably and attempted to conceal his face. As the vehicle made its way east on Interstate 8, the agent conducted a vehicle stop and discovered many large bags full of railroad property.

The Union Pacific Railroad Police responded to the scene and identified the metal in the vehicle to be property of the Union Pacific Railroad. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Esteban Varela-Arroyo, also known as Esteban Arroyo-Varela, has an extensive criminal history. The subject was also previously arrested this past August by Yuma Sector agents for the same crime.

The subject, a resident of Yuma County, was arrested and turned over to the Union Pacific Railroad Police for grand theft. They also seized the vehicle and took possession of the stolen property.
