Barely reported illegal alien DUI killer pleads guilty today

The illegal alien, Rafael Ramirez Perez, 22, previously convicted of DUI offenses and deported to Mexico, who illegally returned to the U.S. and then killed Amy Kortlang in a head on collision in Oct. while speeding drunk in a company work truck and then fled on foot, pleaded guilty today to murder and drunk driving charges.

Of course, as usual with San Diego TV news reporting practices, when the event occured, not a single San Diego TV news outlet reported on this tragic incident. The only news story reported at the time was a small story on the San Diego Union-Tribune website, and nowhere in the story was there any mention that the driver is a previously deported Mexican illegal alien. Of course on near the same day, a young woman was killed by a white DUI driver, and every local news organization reported extensively on the accident, with name, photos and history of the college age driver.

Now, while both accidents are sickening and deserve stiff punishment, I wonder why the incident involving the illegal alien driver was totally, and I do mean totally, ignored by the TV media here in San Diego? Oh yeah, that's right, reporting on this scumbag's actions, prior criminal history, immigration status and illegal return afer deportation goes against their agenda that all illegal aliens are honest, law abiding, hard working angels. I guess that's why we call San Diego, Mexico's Finest City.

    THE DAY AFTER THE ACCIDENT-

San Diego Union-Tribune: Man arrested after woman dies in crash

    October 11, 2006

RAMONA – Authorities arrested a suspected hit-and-run driver several hours after a woman, 22, died in a crash on state Route 67.

Rafael Ramirez Perez, 22, of Ramona was arrested at midnight Monday, about two miles north of the collision site, said California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Pennings.

Witnesses said Perez was speeding in a 2000 Ford F-150 north on Route 67 near Mussey Grade Road when he crossed the double lines and struck several vehicles about 8:50 p.m., Pennings said.

The truck hit a Dodge Caliber driven by a Spring Valley man and then slammed head-on into a 1999 Honda Civic, Pennings said. Another vehicle then struck the Dodge.

The woman driving the Honda, Amy Kortlang of Ramona, was killed. The other motorists suffered minor injuries.

After the head-on collision, Perez abandoned the truck and ran, Pennings said. He was found about three hours later walking near Route 67.

Perez has a history of drunken-driving offenses, authorities said. He was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving, hit-and-run and first-degree murder, according to jail records.

The news of today's plea was reported by the North County times, although they never reported on the incident when it occurred in Oct.

    TODAY-

North County Times: Suspected illegal immigrant pleads guilty to fatal Ramona crash

NORTH COUNTY ---- A suspected illegal immigrant with a prior drunken-driving conviction who authorities say returned to the United States after being deported to Mexico earlier this year pleaded guilty Wednesday to murder and drunken-driving charges in connection with a fatal crash in Ramona, a prosecutor said.

Rafael Ramirez Perez, 22, faces up to 21 years to life in state prison when Superior Court Judge Patricia Cookson sentences him Jan. 17, Deputy District Attorney Kristian Trocha said.

Perez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in great bodily injury in connection with the Oct. 10 crash that killed Amy Kortlang, 22, of Ramona, Trocha said.

Perez had been driving his company's work truck when the fatal accident happened on a dark stretch of Highway 67, south of Mussey Grade Road, California Highway Patrol officers said.

The company pickup veered into the opposite lane and sideswiped a Dodge Caliber before slamming head-on into Amy Kortlang's red Honda Civic. The Honda overturned, and she died at the scene.

About three hours after the fatal crash, Perez was found walking alongside Highway 67 about two miles north of the scene.

Perez has perviously served time for a drunken-driving conviction. After serving his sentence, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials deported Perez to Mexico. The deportation was in March, about seven months before the fatal crash in Ramona. Cont.

And they report he is a "suspected illegal alien"? He was arrested for drunken driving, deported to Mexico, then 7 months later he is back and kills a US citizen, and they refer to him in the story title as a "suspected illegal alien"?

Yes I find it amazing how local TV stations for the most part clear across the country seldom report these crimes concerning these criminal invaders. Makes you wonder where their loyalties may lie doesn't it?
