Beaufort County Council to vote on illegal immigrants proposal
BEAUFORT, S.C. Companies that knowingly hire illegal aliens could lose their Beaufort County business licenses under a proposed county law set for a final vote tonight.
If it's approved by the Beaufort County Council, the Lawful Employment Ordinance would take effect next year.
Under the proposal, people who apply for a county business license must sign a form verifying that they do --not-- knowingly employ or plan to hire an illegal immigrant.
Licensed companies would be subject to county audits.
The audit process hasN'T been worked out, but a council committee has suggested annual audits of 25 percent of the roughly five-thousand businesses licensed with the county.

Its a good start. Hopefully we can get enough folks to encourage the Council to support the measure.
