McALLEN — As many as 55,000 young people could benefit from the federal DREAM Act if it were approved now, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Monday.

    I noticed that group, too.
Higher education is such an overrated trend in our culture. A very sizable portion of any DREAM Act students would just go into social advocacy roles, if they obtained a degree, thus perpetuating the cycle. Our military is frequently misused in unjustified conflicts. The administrative bureaucracy would be another tax wasting nightmare. Lots of rampant fraud. There's plenty of reasons to be opposed to this.

I feel sorry for the hapless young people caught up in this, but they are probably better equipped for satisfactory international careers than many native born people. Someone needs to work with them in a positive way...because nearly every young person in the world would make their way here if they could.

Conservatives for Comprehensive Immigration Reform??!! Conservatives for the Dream Act? Is this some kind of bad joke? Or just another traitor's oxymoron revealing itself during our Period of Ironies and Opposites?

I am a Southern Baptist and am totally and completely outraged and offended that the Southern Baptist Convention through its leader Richard Land would involve itself in politics, in lobbying, in influencing legislation and impacting public policy in direct defiance of US tax law and the majority of its members to do anything, let alone promote a path to citizenship for any foreign national in our country in violation of US immigration law, including support of the Dream Act. Like charity, "ethics" begins at home, Richard. Go find yours.

Dream act students will take Chicano studies and become LaRaza members.
