According to Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, the U.S.-Mexico border is more secure than ever before. In my opinion, that single statement alone warrants her dismissal. It shows she doesn't understand the gravity of the situation we are confronted with, or it shows she is being intentionally dishonest – something the Obama administration has become known for.

Leo Banks, is a member of the Nogales Border Patrol Station's Citizen's Advisory Board and is thus in a position to know the factual truth of what happens along the border. He said Napolitano "blasted those who dare suggest the Obama administration's efforts to stop illegal crossings at our border are anything but an unprecedented success" ("Napolitano goes on offense", Americanthinker.com, Feb. 11, 2011).

"She said the border isn't overrun with violence or out of control, and those who say it is are trying to score political points. She [also] delivered a bizarre warning to drug cartels: [telling them] don't even think about bringing your violence and tactics across this border. You will be met by an overwhelming force."

A bit of history: CNSNews reporter Penny Starr, in February 2010, wrote: "Napolitano told senators that people from countries with ties to terror could potentially gain entry into America by crossing the country's southern border. But according to the Department of Homeland Security's own reports, thousands of people from 14 'special interest' countries already have come into the United States illegally." [The State Department designates some nations as 'special interest' countries because of their links to terrorism]" ("Napolitano says people from countries tied to terrorism could potentially enter USA, but DHS report says thousands already here," Feb. 26, 2010).

May 20, 2010, WorldNetDaily's Chelsea Schilling wrote: "Almost nine years after terrorists murdered 2,751 people on Sept. 11, 2001, the U.S. is still facing a major threat as hundreds of illegal aliens from countries known to support and sponsor terrorism sneak across the U.S.-Mexico Border" ("Foreign 'terrorists' breach U.S. border: Illegals coming from Afghanistan, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Sudan, Syria, Yemen," WND.com).

She wrote, "Thousands of illegal aliens apprehended along the 2,000-mile border stretching through California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas aren't even from Mexico. The U.S. Border Patrol calls them 'other then Mexicans,' or OTMs, and many are citizens of countries that are sponsors of terrorism."

Janet Napolitano exemplifies all that is wrong with the Obama administration. They are proficient at giving speeches and devoid of substantive ability to carry out and/or implement procedures to protect our citizenry.

Napolitano may view herself as manly, but drug cartels are comprised of real men who are real bad guys. Her hollow bluster doesn't impress, frighten, or get their attention in any way, shape or form.

Fox News reported yesterday that another top Mexican police officer was ambushed and murdered over the weekend. The murder took place in the Northern Mexico border state of Nuevo Leon. His slaying brings the total number of top Mexican officers murdered this year to 21.

Nuevo Leon borders Laredo, Texas, and it is one of the central battlegrounds between the drug cartels that are fighting to solidify the position of drug supplier extraordinaire to the U.S. Did Napolitano ask those living along that stretch of border how safe they feel? Do they agree with her, or are they the ones she referenced who are trying to gain political points?

Leo Bank, in his aforementioned piece, wrote, "For those in the Tucson Sector, the border's busiest for drug and illegal crossings, [her] bluster would be uproarious if the matter weren't so serious. Everybody in the smuggler-occupied lands of Southern Arizona knows the cartels are already here and have been for a long time."

"Police Chief Jeff Kirklan also calls Napolitano's claims untrue, as does Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever. Both say the spillover from the Mexican drug war is here now."

Earlier this year, U.S. Border Patrol agents caught the Muslim terrorist Imam Said Jaziri hiding in the trunk of an immigrant smuggler at a border crossing into California. His capture doesn’t signal successful border policy by Napolitano – it signals that one of the bad guys got caught. Now comes confirmation that 890 of the most vicious and dangerous illegals, who were to be deported, have mistakenly been released from prison back into our communities.

We are living in perilous times, and we need more than Obama and Napolitano ensuring that there are policies in place sufficient to protect our borders. That requires more than petty speeches and photo-ops. We need leadership, and it has become painfully obvious that leadership isn't a quality Obama nor those he appoints are familiar with.
