A Mexican citizen illegally in Myrtle Beach pleaded guilty to firearms and immigration charges Monday in U.S. District Court in Florence, according to the office of S.C. U.S. district attorney Reginald Lloyd.

Lloyd reports Juan Francisco Luna-Ibarra, 30, pleaded guilty to being an illegal alien in the U.S. and t possession of a firearm.

Court records show immigration agents were investigating a Myrtle Beach residence in April when Luna-Ibarra pulled into the driveway, then admited he lived there and that he had a .22-caliber pistol in his bedroom and that he had been illegally in the U.S. since 2006.

Federal law prohibits possession of a firearm by an illegal alien and Luna-Ibarra faces up to 10 years behind bars.

Assistant U.S. attorney A. Bradley Parham is prosecuting the case following an investigation by the Myrtle Beach Police Department, the U.S. Drug enforcement Administration and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
