Bikers to protest border agents' sentencing (4:21 p.m.)

California bikers are organizing a protest in support of two former El Paso Border Patrol agents scheduled to start their prison sentences this month for shooting a drug smuggler in the buttocks in 2005.
The activists, from The American Freedom Riders motorcycle club, plan to protest Jan. 13 in front of the Downtown Los Angeles Federal Building to ask that agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean be pardoned.

Compean was sentenced to 12 years in prison, and Ramos to 11 years in prison for violation of civil rights and tampering with evidence. American Freedom Riders officials said on their Web site that a chapter in Phoenix will also lead a protest.

As one of our members said the other day, these agents should be given a new trial or the charges dropped altogether.
