Sen. McCoyLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ A state lawmaker wants to require law enforcement agencies to share information about certain people they arrest with federal immigration officials if they suspect those people are in the country illegally. Fingerprints and other identifying information would be handed over under a bill (LB699) introduced Wednesday by Sen. Beau McCoy of Omaha. The measure would apply to arrests for felonies and some misdemeanors, including drunken driving. McCoy says he was motivated to introduce the bill because a suspected illegal immigrant with a suspended driver's license caused a crash that killed a 4-year-old Omaha girl last May. McCoy says he believes many agencies already share information with federal officials, but he wants to mandate the practice statewide.
