With the possible backing of the Pentagon, the Senate’s second-ranking Democrat will offer an amendment to the 2008 defense authorization bill that allows some undocumented immigrants to receive citizenship through military service.
The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, or DREAM Act, would allow someone who was younger than 16 when they came to the U.S., has been in the country for at least five years and graduated from high school to become a legal immigrant by serving two years in the military.
“It turns out that many in the Department of Defense believe, as I do, that the DREAM Act is an important part of making certain we have talented young men and women ready to serve in our military,â€

Durbin (Dirtbag) tweeked this bill to add the 2yrs of service so he can get the illegals amnesty. Before the bill was set up for college and then a way for citzenship, he thinks by adding the service part everyone will vote yes, it still gives them a break on the college funding part. Haven't these Senators learned anything from the amnesty bill ?
They are bringing this disguised so we wouldn't know .

And those that take advantage of it do not have to speak English to enter the service. I suppose they don't now, I'm not sure though. I just can't imagine being on a battlefield with someone you can't speak with.
How they can justifiy this is beyond comprehension to me. If they are having trouble getting a legal recruits, there is a reason. Either people do not want to support the war, they do not feel our military is treated fairly, or something else. Ultimately though, if the citizens do not join, they should find out why and fix it rather then going to illegals.
It also sounds to me, though I could be wrong, like it is not a one time thing. More like it will be a continueing policy both for the educational and military aspects.
And still not enforcement ...

The scariest thing about any bill that creates this so-called path is the possibility that under equal protection it will be construed to extend to other classes.

Let us not forget that not all illegal aliens are hispanic. There are many middle easterners and others from areas or countries that practice radical Islamic beliefs. Some are here on 'student' visas but do not actually attend classes. I know I wouldn't want them enlisted in our Armed Services. There are some folks we simply cannot trust. EVER. Does Durbin and his homeboys think WE have overlooked that fact? I believe he has.
By the way...I had no trouble getting through to Burr and Dole's offices today (phone and fax). They are NOT getting enough calls from us! Come on North Carolina folks...We can do beter!

BINGO! That's exactly what he did. He's using the war effort as an excuse to authorize in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. Durbin is such a hypocrite - he want's us to pull out of Iraq immediately, yet he turns around and say we need the illegals to enlist for two years because recruitment is down due to the Iraq war.Durbin (Dirtbag) tweeked this bill to add the 2yrs of service so he can get the illegals amnesty. For the record, recruitment isn't really down. Every branch of the armed forces, with the exception of the Army, is making monthly goal. Supposedly the Army has missed goal over the last two months, however, they are still on track to make their annual goal. So, if they're still on track to make annual goal - they can't be hurting that bad.
I'm sick of the political game our elected leaders in Congress keep playing to undermine the well-being of our country and Americans!
