The immigration debate continues and so do ways of expressing discontent with the immigration reform bill.

Close to home, dozens of Latinos and their supporters met Sunday to make thousands of blue ribbons to be worn by individuals throughout Utah. "The ribbon symbolizes that we want dignity and justice for the immigrant community," said organizer Tony Yapias.

Organizers also said the blue ribbon campaign comes as an alternative for those who choose not to participate in the May 1st strike or boycott.

Blue Ribbons to Symbolize Immigration Reform Support
    April 23rd, 2006 @ 3:55pm
(KSL News) -- Dozens of Latinos in Utah have come up with another way to support immigration reform besides a national work strike planned for May 1st.

A group got together this afternoon to create thousands of blue ribbons people can wear that day.

Leaders say after the big rally April 9th they came up with the Blue Ribbon Campaign because people kept asking them what they could do. They hope the ribbons generate discussion.

Tony Yapias, Community Activist: "The ribbon symbolizes that we want dignity and justice for the immigrant community."

Instead of skipping work or school May 1st, Latino leaders are encouraging people to participate in a Walk for Liberty at Liberty Park.
