U.S. Customs and border Protection agents arrested a convicted sex offender this morning in Calexico as the individual tried to illegally enter the United States, the agency reported today.

The suspect was arrested about 10 a.m. in an area west of Calexico.
A records check determined the person was previously deported from the United States.
The suspect was convicted on charges lewed acts with a child under the age of 14, which carried a sentence of 60 months probation and 12 months in jail, according to the agency.
The person was also convicted on charges of theft and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse.
The person is being held at the Imperial County Jail.
