McCain to LaRaza >> Your will get 'comprehensive refor

    McCain: I've earned Hispanics' trust

By DEVLIN BARRETT, Associated Press Writer Sun Jul 13, 11:01 PM ET

WASHINGTON - John McCain says he has earned the trust of Hispanic voters by championing an immigration reform bill that nearly killed his presidential bid.

The Republican presidential candidate also says, in remarks prepared for delivery Monday in San Diego, that Democrat Barack Obama failed to take a similar stand on the politically explosive issue of illegal immigration.

McCain will speak to the annual convention of the National Council of La Raza. Obama appeared before the group on Sunday, another indication of the fierce jockeying for a critical pool of voters, a quarter of them undecided in a recent poll.

McCain, a senator from Arizona, saw his White House bid nearly collapse from conservatives' anger over his effort to pass comprehensive immigration reform, which opponents branded "amnesty" for millions of illegal immigrants.

"I took my lumps for it without complaint. My campaign was written off as a lost cause. I did so not just because I believed it was the right thing to do for Hispanic Americans. It was the right thing to do for all Americans," McCain said in the prepared remarks.

"I do ask for your trust that when I say, I remain committed to fair, practical and comprehensive immigration reform, I mean it. I think I have earned that trust," McCain said.

Since the defeat of the immigration reform bill, McCain has tried to make peace with critics in his party by stressing the need for border security before creating a path to citizenship.

While he worked with Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy on immigration reform, McCain said, "Senator Obama declined to cast some of those tough votes. He voted for and even sponsored amendments that were intended to kill the legislation."

Hispanics could play a critical role in the voting in such battleground states as Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico.

A recent AP-Yahoo News poll showed Obama leading McCain among Hispanics, 47 percent to 22 percent, with 26 percent undecided.

On Sunday, Obama told La Raza he would push a tax credit for small businesses that provide health insurance to their employees, a program he hopes has special appeal to Hispanics and other minority groups.

"Make no mistake about it: The Latino community holds this election in your hands," Obama told the group.

It would seem that the 270 million non-hispanic voters have been forgotten about in this election. Keep pandering boys you’ll get yours.
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!

I really wince to think what's going to happen if this idiot takes office and cannot deliver on his promise of comprehensive reform, AKA amnesty for the illegal invaders! Same goes for Obama with his perceived promises to these people. They are likely to perceive this pandering and attention they have been given as a promise of amnesty in exchange for votes.

This may get ugly given the volatile nature of many of these illegals when they do not get their amnesty.

Did McCain also let them know that he cannot unilaterally give them anything? The American citizens still have a say and will never let anything close to amnesty happen again!

What? EgObama needs to brush up on his English. It's embarrassing!!

The proper (and correct) way to say this is: The Latino community does not hold this election in their hands.

Now that he has secured the GOP nomination, John McCain is spitting in the face of the majority of Americans who believe in enforcement by once again openly emphasizing his plans for mass amnesty -- rather than dodging and hiding this this as he did during the primaries, saying things like his amnesty wouldn't even come up for a vote.

Bottom line: John McCain will not truly secure the border and would push his amnesty scheme ASAP:

    -----------

Here's what he said a few months ago at the Reagan Library debate:

HOOK: Senator McCain, let me just take the issue to you, because you obviously have been very involved in it. During this campaign, you, like your rivals, have been putting the first priority, heaviest emphasis on border security. But your original immigration proposal back in 2006 was much broader and included a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants who were already here.

What I'm wondering is -- and you seem to be downplaying that part. At this point, if your original proposal came to a vote on the Senate floor, would you vote for it?

MCCAIN: It won't. It won't. That's why we went through the debate...

    HOOK: But if it did?

MCCAIN: No, I would not, because we know what the situation is today
. The people want the border secured first. And so to say that that would come to the floor of the Senate -- it won't. We went through various amendments which prevented that ever -- that proposal.

But, look, we're all in agreement as to what we need to do. Everybody knows it. We can fight some more about it, about who wanted this or who wanted that. But the fact is, we all know the American people want the border secured first.

MCCAIN: We will secure the borders first when I am president of the United States. I know how to do that. I come from a border state, where we know about building walls, and vehicle barriers, and sensors, and all of the things necessary.

And here's the real John McCain pandering just a couple of weeks ago:
