EVERSON -- U.S. Border Patrol agents chased two men in a car to Everson Thursday afternoon, Aug. 21, and arrested one, while the other escaped and remains at large.
Border Patrol spokesman Michael Bermudez wouldn't disclose how or where the chase began, but said more information would be available Friday.
Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo, who had deputies in the area investigating a string of burglaries at the time, said the border agents lost track of the car when it neared Everson.
The border agents found the car abandoned on Stickney Island Road, with what appeared to be jewelry and firearms inside that matched what was taken that day in the burglaries, Elfo said.
Other stolen items were found in a barn near the abandoned car, he said.
The agents tracked one of the men to the 300 block of Park Drive and arrested him.
Elfo did not release the man's name or say what he was arrested for. He didn't yet have a description of the suspect who is still missing.
