Border Czar Tom Homan Says Raids on Sanctuary Cities to Deport Illegals May be Paused After Plan Was Leaked
by Cassandra MacDonaldJan. 19, 2025 10:00 am

President Donald Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homan, has said the immigration raids on “Sanctuary Cities,” including Chicago and New York, may be placed on pause after details about the plan were leaked to the media.
On Friday, it was reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement was preparing to launch a “big f–king operation” in sanctuary cities on Tuesday — just one day after Trump’s inauguration.
The Wall Street Journal reported that over 200 ICE agents would be deployed to Chicago alone.

ICE Preparing ‘Big F–king Operation’ Raiding Sanctuary Cities IMMEDIATELY After Trump is Inaugurated, According to Report
Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans a sweeping operation in sanctuary cities immediately following President Trump’s inauguration, targeting illegal immigrants with removal orders. This bold move raises significant implications for immigration policy nationwide.

Homan appeared to confirm the report during an appearance on Fox News later in the day.
“It’s going to be a big raid all across the country,” Homan said.
“Chicago is just one of many places. We’ve got 24 [ICE] field offices across the country. On Tuesday, ICE is finally going to go out and do their job. We’re going to take the handcuffs off ICE and let them go arrest criminal aliens. That’s what’s going to happen.”
Homan explained that ICE will “enforce immigration law without apology” but “concentrate on the worst first.”
Though they may focus on the "worst," Homan said, "no one’s off the table."
“If they’re in the country illegally, they got a problem,” Homan said.
However, on Saturday, Homan told the Washington Post that leaks put law enforcement officers at "great risk."
"We're looking at this leak and will make a decision based on this leak," Homan said. "It's unfortunate because anyone leaking law enforcement operations puts officers at great risk."
Homan told the paper that he did not know why Chicago “became a focus of attention” when enforcement is planned nationwide.
“ICE will start arresting public safety threats and national security threats on day one,” Homan said. “We’ll be arresting people across the country, uninhibited by any prior administration guidelines. Why Chicago was mentioned specifically, I don’t know.”
“This is nationwide thing,” he continued. “We’re not sweeping neighborhoods. We have a targeted enforcement plan.”
