Border Fence Could Mean More Pressure for Coast Guard
    Tuesday , July 17, 2007 Posted: 10:49 PM

Illegal activity could get pushed into the water

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND--- Coast Guard officers are charged with a duty to protect the border line between Mexico and the Unites States, but with the possibility of a border fence they're afraid it could mean more pressure on them.

Illegal activity is something the Coast Guard faces everyday; something they train for. They're the frontline on the water, but with such a large area to cover, they tell us it's impossible to get everyone.

Lieutenant Charles Hawkins says a border fence will make things worse by pushing illegal activity into the water, and make it even more difficult to protect us against the threats of terrorists, illegal aliens, and smugglers.

He tells us they always try to be prepared, but they could use more man power.

Lt. Hawkins' comment makes absolutely no sense. So is he proposing we don't build a fence because he thinks it'll make his job more difficult? Is this the mentality of those we trust to ensure our nation remains secure? If so, we're in serious trouble. How's this for a noval idea - we do a better job of blocking unwanted intrusions on land and at sea. In other words, let's have the security in place to guard against illegal entry from all avenues (land, sea, and air).

The time for excuses is over!

I think this is a realistic observation. If Africans can get into Europe via boats, it's certain that aliens from south of the border can get in here the same way. It would be difficult to spot them at night. The upshot is that it would make a longer trip for many of them, and they would enter in at highly populated areas---highly populated with illegals, that is.
