Border Patrol Agents in Arizona Capture Illegal Alien with Long Criminal History

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents from the Yuma sector arrested a Mexican man illegally crossing the border Tuesday who had been arrested 26 times in Arizona for crimes such as driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault, forgery, shoplifting, burglary, vehicle theft, and criminal trespassing.

About 7 p.m. Border Patrol agents noticed evidence that a single individual had crossed the Colorado River around County 9th Street. Agents began tracking the individual east from the river area. After a few hours, agents caught up with the individual, placed him into custody, and transported him to the Yuma Station for further processing.

Records checks revealed that the man, a 36-year-old Mexican citizen, had been arrested 26 times throughout the state of Arizona for crimes such as DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault, forgery, shoplifting, burglary, vehicle theft, and criminal trespassing since 1996. Further checks revealed that the subject has been deported nine times by immigration officials. He has spent about four years in jail for his previous crimes.
