Big Break In Homicide Investigation

Hidalgo County authorities make a big break in a Monte Alto area double homicide, postively identifying two charred bodies and naming a prime suspect.

Now they need the public's help locating that suspect and another man, considered a person of interest.

In a morning press conference Wednesday, Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino released pictures of suspect Hugo Cesar Delgado-Castillo, an illegal immigrant and of resident alien Tomas Vargas Jasso, the person of interest. They have both been linked to the deaths of 41 year old Jaime Delgado and 22 year old Eric Lee Lopez. Their bodies were found burned beyond recognition on July 10, west of Monte Alto. Deputies believe they were beaten at an Edinburg warehouse, that was eventually set ablaze. They were then shot and burned in a car, near FM 493 and FM 2812. The sheriff believes both men have fled to Mexico.

"We also have reason to believe that during the murder of the two individuals, Mr. Jasso was shot in the thigh. We believe he received medical attention in Mexico," Trevino said.

The motive for murder, he believes, was over the payment of cocaine.

Castillo is believed to be in a 1999 white Ford Expedition with Texas license plate number: 108VYN.

Jasso might be in a gold Chevy Impala with custom wheels and unknown license plates.

Anyone with information is urged to call Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers at 668-TIPS.
