Border Patrol Agents Arrest a Convicted Sex Offender in the Rio Grande Valley

    Release Date: January 22, 2021

EDINBURG, Texas – Corpus Christi Border Patrol Station agents apprehended a subject previously arrested for Criminal Sex Conduct with a minor, and Fort Brown Border Patrol Station agents arrested a subject with a Negligent Homicide conviction.

On Tuesday evening, a Wharton County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a vehicle stop on a green Ford F-250 on US Highway 59 in Hungerford, Texas. Agents from the Corpus Christi Border Patrol Station responded and determined the citizenship of the subjects. Record checks revealed that one of the Mexican nationals, Jesus Hernandez-Rojas, has a prior arrest in Greenwood, South Carolina for Criminal Sex Conduct w/minor (11-14 Years) – 2nd degree.

Hernandez-Rojas subsequently pled guilty to a lesser charge and was sentenced to eight years confinement (suspended), thirty days confinement (served), and four years’ probation, and was required to register as a sex offender in the state South Carolina.

Yesterday morning, Fort Brown Border Patrol Station agents apprehended an adult male Honduran national in Brownsville, Texas. Record checks revealed that the subject, Jose Mendoza-Sanchez, has a conviction dated March 19, 2019, for Negligent Homicide out of the Lamoure County, North Dakota, Sheriff’s Office. He was subsequently deported from the United States.

Border Patrol processed the subjects accordingly.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation. The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
