Border Patrol agents find body in desert

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Agents with the U.S. Border Patrol found the body of a man who had been shot to death in the desert southwest of Tucson.

The man is believed to be between 25 and 30 years old and may have been in the desert for a couple of days before being found on Friday, agency spokesman Gustavo Soto said.

The body was found covered by a blanket around 8 a.m. by a search-and-rescue agent flying a helicopter in the area.

Border Patrol agents have reported seeing drug-smuggling activity in the area, said Soto, adding that it is unclear whether the man's apparent killing is drug-related.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department was investigating and has deemed the case a suspicious death, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. James Ogden said.

Soto said the body is the 13th that has been found in the Tucson sector of the Border Patrol since the beginning of the fiscal year in October. The Tucson sector covers most of the Arizona-Mexico border.
