Border Patrol Agents Intercept Meth in Two Smuggling Attempts Including One Concealed Inside Two Cereal Boxes

CALEXICO, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol Agents intercepted two narcotics smuggling attempts in two separate events Friday morning.

The first incident occurred on Friday at approximately 2:45 a.m., when a Remote Video Surveillance System (RVSS) operator notified agents of a subject making an illegal entry by climbing over the International Boundary Wall near Second Street and G. Anaya Street.

The RVSS operators advised agents in the field that the subject was carrying a backpack. When agents responded to the area, RVSS operators observed the subject climbing back over the International Boundary Wall into Mexico without the backpack.

Agents searched the area and discovered the backpack, which contained several wrapped packages inside two cereal boxes. The agents transported the backpack to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for testing.

At the station, the packages inside the cereal boxes tested positive for methamphetamine, with a weight of 7.02 pounds and an estimated value of $15,795.

The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The second incident occurred on Friday at approximately 3:50 a.m., when a Border Patrol agent patrolling near Enrique Camarena Junior High School discovered a small wrapped bundle. The agent recovered the bundle and transported it to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for testing.

At the station, the bundle tested positive for methamphetamine, with a weight of 2.58 pounds and an estimated street value of $5,805.

The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
