WICHITA, Kansas — Wichita police say the man who killed a six-year-old girl and shot her mom, sister and grandmother before turning the gun on himself had been deported from the country twice.

Police originally said the man's name was Valentin Vega-Soto, a 36-year-old Mexican national. However, after running a finger check, they realized that was his alias. His legal name is Joel Humberto Corrales Vega.

They say after investigating further, they found he had been deported from the U.S. twice in the past and has a criminal history outside of Kansas. KSN has found records showing at least one court case involving Vega in Arizona.

Officials say Vega kicked down the door of his 30-year-old ex-girlfriend's home in the 2300 block of S. Stoney Point and shot her, her mother and two young daughters before shooting himself in the head.

Six-year-old Reimy Rivera died at the scene. Her nine-year-old sister, Dayanara, remains in very critical condition. Police say she has regained consciousness a couple times while in the hospital, but remain concerned. Her mother and grandmother are expected to survive.

Officers found about one ounce of what is believed to be meth in Vega's Escalade, which was parked outside his ex-girlfriend's home. They are still awaiting toxicology reports to confirm the substance, but say one ounce of meth is more than just for personal use.
