A sport utility vehicle carrying suspected illegal immigrants crashed into a flatbed trailer on westbound Ruthrauff Road at Interstate 10 Wednesday morning.
No one was seriously injured in the collision, which occurred about 10:45 a.m., said Deputy Dawn Hanke, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman. Four of the suspected illegal immigrants, three of them male and one female, were apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol, and about five ran from the wreck, officials said.
A Border Patrol agent turned on his vehicle's emergency lights to initiate an immigration check on westbound I-10, and the vehicle sped away, said Jesús Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Border Patrol's Tucson sector. The vehicle left the interstate at Ruthrauff Road and slammed into the trailer, Hanke said.
