Border Patrol Agents Arrest Man with Extensive Criminal History

    (Friday, August 06, 2010)

Santa Teresa, N.M. – U.S. Border Patrol agents in Santa Teresa arrested a man with an extensive criminal background who was attempting to enter illegally near the Santa Teresa, New Mexico Port of Entry.

On Aug 6, 2010, agents assigned to the Santa Teresa station were patrolling near the Santa Teresa, N.M., Port of Entry, when they encountered 57-year old Rogelio Saldana-Hernandez making an illegal entry into the United States. Saldana-Hernandez was arrested and taken to the Border Patrol Processing Center. Agents discovered that Saldana-Hernandez has an extensive criminal history, including a 1979 arrest and conviction for manslaughter with the use of a firearm. Saldana-Hernandez was sentenced to six years in prison for that crime. Saldana-Hernandez is being detained pending prosecution.

This most recent arrest exemplifies the ongoing efforts by CBP U.S. Border Patrol to continue its vigilance in an effort to keep criminal activity out of our communities while securing America’s borders.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
