Border Patrol agents arrested 20 Mexican nationals early Monday morning in San Clemente during a smuggling attempt, the agency said.
Agents patrolling the coast detected a small fishing boat with several occupants approaching shore around 3 a.m., and as the boat landed at Calafia State Beach, those aboard attempted to flee, the agency said.
They caught 17 adult males and three adult females attempting to flee the vessel. One of the people apprehended was a woman, 36, who broke her leg while jumping from the boat, the agency said. She was hospitalized.
The other 19 were taken to a Border Patrol station for processing.
The agency is conducting an investigation "to identify and prosecute the individuals responsible for this smuggling attempt."

Good job guys. San Clemente is further north than the usual San Diego coastal area which we have been hearing about so much activity lately. Perhaps the word is out to attempt landing further north?
