Border Patrol arrests felon wanted in Wisconsin

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Border Patrol agents working in southern Arizona arrested a Nicaraguan national previously convicted in Wisconsin for a homicide.

Federal authorities say 32-year-old Isaac Gutierrez-Blandon was among a group of suspected illegal immigrants captured Monday night near Why.

During processing, agents found that Gutierrez-Blandon was arrested by the Waupaca County, Wis., Sheriff's Department in July 2007, and was sentenced to six years in prison.

His criminal record was discovered using a fingerprint identification system. Gutierrez-Blandon now faces federal prosecution for re-entry of an aggravated felon followed by a formal removal from the country.

U.S. Border Patrol Arrests Felon Convicted of Homicide

Tucson, Arizona – A male Nicaraguan national previously convicted of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle was among a group of individuals apprehended last night near Why, Ariz., by the Tucson Sector Border Patrol, a component of the Customs and Border Protection’s Joint Field Command-Arizona.

Isaac Gutierrez-Blandon, 32, was among the group apprehended by Ajo Station agents for illegally entering the United States. During processing, agents found that he was arrested by the Waupaca County, Wis., Sheriff’s Department in July 2007, convicted later that month, and sentenced to six years in prison. His criminal record was discovered using the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, a vital tool that ensures individuals with criminal histories are identified and penalties are upheld to the full extent of the law. Gutierrez-Blandon now faces federal prosecution for re-entry of an aggravated felon followed by a formal removal from the country.

In addition to enforcing immigration laws, the Border Patrol contributes to a safer America by identifying and removing dangerous criminals from the country.
