Border Patrol detains 14 after boat lands in H.B.

The 24-foot boat landed on Seapoint Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway

HUNTINGTON BEACH – The Border Patrol has taken 14 people into custody after a boat they were in landed in Huntington Beach, authorities said.

The 24-foot boat landed on Seapoint Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, said Steven Pitts, a spokesman with the San Diego Sector Border Patrol.

Huntington Beach police said they received a call asking for assistance just before 5 a.m. Thursday.

Pitts said the 14 individuals, whose nationality is unknown at this point, were taken to a nearby Border Patrol station.

At this point, authorities are working to identify who the smuggler or captain of the boat was.

There is no indication of narcotics, Pitts added.
