NEW BERLIN — A high-speed chase by U.S. Border Patrol agents early Wednesday resulted in the detention of four illegal aliens but left 11 more still on the run.

Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Jordan said Border Patrol agents were working interdiction on Interstate 10, when they reportedly saw a vehicle they believed was loaded with illegal aliens.

“It just sounds like they saw them coming down the interstate and tried to stop them because there were so many people packed in the car,” Jordan said. “Normally, that is what happens.”

Border Patrol agents pursued the car off I-10 and on to FM 775.

Agents stopped the car in 1000 block of Gin Spur Road, and 15 illegal aliens ran from the agents.

Jordan said Guadalupe County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Gin Spur to help in the search.

“They ran and Border Patrol wanted to chase them down,” Jordan said.

The illegals ran south on Gin Road into a maize field, but agents did not go after them Jordan said.

“The border patrol said don’t go into the field, to give them a little bit,” Jordan said. “When they did [dispatchers] started getting calls.”

One of those calls came from an address on Gin Spur Road, where deputies found two illegal aliens hiding in a horse barn.

“We took them in without any incident,” Jordan said.

A few hours later, two more illegal aliens were detained by deputies who found them walking along a creek bed on Gin Spur Road.

Eleven are believed to still be at large in the area.

“Sometimes you catch them, and sometimes you don’t,” Jordan said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office at (830) 379-1224.

I've caught more than that in my own backyard, with the help of the real mountain dog.
