Five months after taking effect, an Arizona law prohibiting businesses from knowingly hiring illegal immigrants hasn't led to an expected flood of crackdowns.

It more resembles a trickle.

No employer sanctions cases have been brought to court.

Authorities across Arizona have closely examined nearly four dozen complaints, a quarter of which were closed because they focused on employees hired before the law took effect.

A flood of employer sanctions cases was expected because an estimated one in 10 workers in Arizona's economy were illegal immigrants.

Even though no employer sanctions cases have been pressed in court, the law has prompted or contributed to an unknown number of illegal immigrants leaving Arizona for their home countries or other American states.
