A border patrol pursuit ended with a crash in East County Sunday, injuring several people as they were ejected from their vehicle.

Around five people were treated for injuries after the crash that happened just before 9 a.m. on state Route 94 at Steele Canyon Road, said the dispatcher with the Heartland fire dispatching agency.

Authorities said the car crashed after the driver sped off when pulled over by border patrol agents.

It is believed the occupants of the vehicle were here illegally, however, officially, their immigration status is unknown.

New Edict from Nappy will be that 'all pursuits are to stop because they are too dangerous.'

In San Diego County the Border Patrol already usually terminates a chase as soon as the city police, County Sheriff or the Highway Patrol can get close enough to take over. That way it isn't a Border Patrol chase. They just follow the cops until the chase ends and check the immigration status of the people involved.

High speeds pursuits were called off years ago simply because they are dangerous to the public. It's safer and easier to get a copter to follow them and as they say you can't out run a radio.
The problem is that most of these drivers are not skilled and are often on drugs such as meth, when they see the lights come they panic and lose control. The skilled drivers ditch the vehicle often causing it to crash and injure the occupants while he gets away.
