Border Patrol ready to start beefing up Yuma sector
Border Patrol ready to start beefing up Yuma sector
TUCSON, Ariz. Beginning tomorrow, the Border Patrol's Yuma sector starts building up its manpower and resources.
It's part of the fed's ongoing fight to control rampant illegal immigration on the Arizona border.
Apprehensions of illegal immigrants crossing from Mexico have shot up nearly 57 percent for the fiscal year that began October 1st.
As of yesterday, the Border Patrol says agents had arrested nearly 100-thousand illegal crossers compared to 62-thousand for the same period in fiscal 2004.
Triggering the official build-up was the scheduled arrival of 12 new agents.
They're the first of 223 who will be permanently assigned to the sector.
The build-up also includes added helicopters and pilots.
