Immigrant witnesses in Barrett case said legal status promised

Nashville’s most infamous murder case -- the 1975 slaying of a 9-year-old Girl Scout -- hinges on an immigrant from Trinidad facing deportation.



Sheldon Anter has refused to testify in the case of Marcia Trimble after a prosecutor’s verbal promise to help him with his immigration status hasn’t been honored, according to Anter’s sister.

Prosecutor Tom Thurman, who wants an emergency deposition before Anter is deported, hasn't drawn up the papers, Anne Graves said.
