U.S. Border Patrol agents on Thursday rescued two women who were unconscious, found 40 illegal immigrants in a Rio Rico stash house, and arrested a man with an extensive criminal record.

The two rescues occurred at nearly the same time in different locations.
At about 7 p.m. Thursday, agents received a call about a woman in distress from a resident in the village of Cowlic, located southwest of Sells on the Tohono O’odham Reservation, said Mike Scioli, Border Patrol Tucson Sector spokesman.

The caller said the woman was lost in the desert. Border Patrol agents responded to the area she identified along with a Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine helicopter. About an hour and a half later, agents in the helicopter spotted the woman, Scioli said.

Agents found the woman, 40, of Mexico, in very bad shape suffering from extreme dehydration, he said. Two other friends were with her as well. She was semi-conscious and unable to respond to basic questions.
They called paramedics and transported her to the Sells Hospital. From there, she was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson, Scioli said. She recovered and appears to be okay, he said.

The other rescue occurred at about 7:35 p.m. in Cochise County near Bisbee, Scioli said. An agent who had apprehended a group of illegal immigrants was taking their information when a 18-year-old woman from Mexico suddenly passed out.

    She was unconscious but breathing.

Paramedics from Bisbee responded to the scene about 10 minutes later, Scioli said. She was taken to the Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee where she was treated and cleared for travel three hours later. She was taken to a processing center and given a voluntary return to Mexico, Scioli said.
The discovery of the stash house happened Thursday night at about 7:30 p.m. in Rio Rico. At that time, officials executed a search warrant and found 45 people inside, Scioli said. Five men in the house were identified as smugglers are going to be prosecuted, he said. The other 40 were illegal immigrants from Mexico and were taken to a Border Patrol processing center.

The arrest of the man with a criminal record occurred Thursday during a vehicle stop on Arizona 83 south of Sonoita, Scioli said. The subsequent record check of the 27-year-old from Mexican revealed that he had numerous criminal convictions including vehicle theft and possession of dangerous drugs, he said. He had also been deported.

He had an MS13 tattoo on his right shoulder and admitted to being a longtime member of the Sureño gang in Yuba City, Calif. But, he said he was no longer affiliated with the gang.

He will be set up for prosecution and deportation, Scioli said.
