Border Patrol agents seized more than $1.5 million in cash from two foreign men in traffic stops on Interstate 5, federal officials said Tuesday.

A 27-year-old Uzbekistan national, a permanent U.S. resident, was stopped in a truck hauling five cars on a trailer at the North County checkpoint near Camp Pendleton about 4:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Border Patrol.

An X-ray showed anomalies in two Acura SUVs on the trailer, and a search turned up false compartments in rear bumpers that contained 49 bundles of cash totaling more than $1.4 million, according to the Border Patrol.

On Sunday about 2 p.m., a Mexican headed south was found with $10,000 in his pockets and about $49,900 in a jacket, according to the Border Patrol, which turned him over to the Department of Homeland Security for deportation.

Their names were withheld.
