Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: Oct. 28, 2009

(10/28/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 12,373 pounds of marijuana and 70.1 pounds of cocaine. Agents arrested 14 criminal aliens and 11 gang members. There were 13 rocking incidents.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Lordsburg, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had an active arrest warrant in the State of California for aggravated assault.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico near


El Paso, Texas. During processing, it was revealed that both subjects were members of the North Side Locos gang. Records checks revealed one of the subjects had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sells, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for attempted sex abuse in the State of Oregon, and had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents reported the discovery of a 30-foot-long tunnel east of the DeConcini Port of Entry near Nogales, Arizona. The tunnel exit was concealed with plywood and weeds.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Eagle Pass, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Tango Blast gang member. Records checks revealed he had two prior convictions for criminal trespass in the State of Texas.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,032 pounds of marijuana, a 1999 F-250 pickup truck, and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Freer, Texas. Agents observed the subject drive through a fence, abandon the vehicle, and abscond on foot. He was subsequently arrested and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, then released into Border Patrol custody.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 372 pounds of marijuana, a loaded .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun, a 1998 Volvo tractor-trailer, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search revealed 35 bundles of marijuana concealed in plastic bins. Agents discovered the handgun in the sleeper compartment of the tractor.

Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,582 pounds of marijuana, a Ford F-350, and arrested a USC near Marathon, Texas. Agents conducted a vehicle stop and discovered bundles of marijuana in the cab and bed of the truck.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 70.1 pounds of cocaine and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Pine Valley, California. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle, and a Z Backscatter X-ray revealed the contraband in the rear quarter panels.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Casa Grande, Arizona. During processing, it was discovered that the subject was a Sur 13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had a prior felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape by force in the State of California, and had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Peru near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape in the State of Idaho, and had also been previously removed from the United States.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Mexico and seized 1,322 pounds of marijuana from a commercial moving truck at the traffic checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the cargo area. A search revealed 11 bundles of marijuana.


San Diego Sector – An off-duty Border Patrol agent assisted in the rescue of a civilian in a remote area near Chula Vista, California. The agent discovered the subject suffering from dehydration and called for assistance. The Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) Team was activated, and, with the assistance of a California Department of Forestry helicopter, extracted the civilian from the area to a waiting ambulance. The subject was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

El Centro Sector – A Border Patrol agent seized an operational, handheld stun gun, and a lock-blade stainless steel knife near Ocotillo, California. The agent discovered the weapons in the same area where four illegal aliens were apprehended. None of the subjects acknowledged ownership of the weapons.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Los Paisas gang member. Records checks revealed he had also been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico who had been detained by local law enforcement officials. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Barrio Azteca gang. Records checks revealed he had a prior conviction for burglary of a vehicle, and had also been previously removed from the United States.


Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Marfa, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Black Diamonds gang. Records checks revealed he had a prior conviction for transportation/selling of a controlled substance in the State of California, and had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,814 pounds of marijuana and a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado after an agent operating a handheld, long-range thermal imaging system observed the vehicle in the brush near Pia Oik, Arizona. Agents responded to the area and discovered several bundles of marijuana inside the abandoned vehicle.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sierra Vista, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual assault and burglary in the State of Colorado, and had also been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,534 pounds of marijuana, a 1995 tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. Using a scope camera, agents discovered the marijuana within a load of crushed vehicles.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,107 pounds of marijuana and a 1995 Ford Windstar near Donna, Texas. While conducting patrol duties, agents discovered the abandoned vehicle with the marijuana inside.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico, along with 20 additional illegal aliens, after a migrant landing near Carlsbad, California. During processing, the initial subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tucson, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sex with a minor in the State of California, and had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – An illegal alien from Mexico assaulted an agent near Sasabe, Arizona. During his arrest, the subject became combative and struck the agent. The subject was subdued and arrested without further incident. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Indio, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for child molestation in the State of California, and had also been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,714 pounds of marijuana, a 2000 Kenworth tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search revealed the narcotics concealed in a load of watermelons.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – A Border Patrol agent on foot fired his weapon at the driver of a 1989 Dodge Ram, after the driver attempted to strike the agent with the vehicle near El Ranchito, Texas. The unidentified subject abandoned the vehicle and fled to Mexico. A search of the vehicle revealed 758 pounds of marijuana inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape in the State of Washington, and had also been previously removed from the United States.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Andrade, California. The subject had bruises on his face and claimed to have been assaulted and robbed by unknown assailants in Mexico. He was transported to a local medical facility for treatment. Mexican officials were notified of the alleged robbery and assault.
