Former Spitzer Ally Challenges License Plan
    November 08, 2007

As New York lawmakers traveled Thursday to Puerto Rico for a major conference, Governor Eliot Spitzer's driver’s license plan also headed south. NY1’s Josh Robin filed the following report on why a key lawmaker is withdrawing support from the embattled governor.

At a political conference in paradise, there is a storm gathering for Governor Eliot Spitzer.

There are no benefits to this plan no matter how he tries to explain it because their is no explanation.

    What continues to surprise me

What continues to shock me about the ENTIRE illegal alien issue, is that it is even up for discussion!

I have lived in lived in 6 countries; the US, South Korea, Laos, Thailand, The United Arab Emirates and Oman. NONE of these countries gives a voice to illegal aliens, or allows illegal alien sympathies or apoligists to enter into the discussion. The view in these countries is, "We decide policy in order to preserve our culture, language and country. We don't let foreigners decide policy."

This is the same stance that should be taken in the US.

The US is the only country that gives power to illegals by virture of allowing discussion about these topics.

We don't have that option over here, and the process for amending the state constitution-you'd need to have a constitutional convention first-is so Byzantine and opaque that it's not even on the table.

The only way we can "recall" Spitzer is by voting him out of office three years from now. I never though the GOP would be able to find a competitive opponent to this venal, megalomaniacal doofus, but he might just managed to unelect himself.

Hey there Shapka. Even though Spitzer is a basket case, I'm glad to see your guy (Rep. King) is standing up for the right side again:

As New York lawmakers traveled Thursday to Puerto Rico for a major conference,
Spitzer's plummeting approval rating extends to fellow Democrats gathering for the 20th annual Somos el Futuro conference

Why didn't they save money & hold it in NY?

    3. Somos el Futuro conference translates to We are the future
who is the 'we' in we are the future?
    4. Who is sponsoring this major conference?
    5. Who is paying for the air fare, rooms, food, etc.?

Is this on the up and up--a perk of office?

UPDATE: This answers some of the questions: Obvious who benefits from this.

Annual Somos El Futuro Legislative Conference Continues Strong Advocacy Role for Hispanics

In March of 2001 newspaper headlines from around the state broke the news that Hispanics were the fastest growing minority group in the state and would sooner than expected be the largest subgroup in the great American mosaic. By early summer, the large number of Hispanic candidates for public office throughout the nation was a testament to that fact. In political contests for mayorships, governorships and state legislatures, Hispanics were not only part of the electorate but visible choices in the voting booth. By early November, unexpected outcomes in nationally watched elections drew more attention to the growing political sophistication and strength of the Hispanic community. (Continued)

I would love to see him challenge Spitzer.

The GOP would be giving up the last Republican seat on Long Island, but I'm convinced his coat tails would reshape the political landscape in New York.

Or have Levy challenge Spitzer in the Dem. primary.

I'd settle for either-even though Levy is a Democrat he's 100% right on this issue, which is all that matters, IMO.
