Boston TV : Alipac Calls On Obama To Deport Aunt

Group Calls On Obama To Deport Aunt
Woman Was Living In Boston Housing Development

    POSTED: 3:05 pm EST February 2, 2009
    UPDATED: 4:40 pm EST February 2, 2009

BOSTON -- A national group is calling on President Barack Obama to deport his aunt, an illegal immigrant who was living in Boston.

The Americans for Legal Immigration PAC filed an arrest request with Immigration and Customs Enforcement Monday and issued a public demand for Obama to deport Zeituni Onyango.

Onyango is currently under a court's order to leave the country or be deported, according to ALI-PAC.

Onyango is currently living in Ohio and has vowed to fight against being deported. Four years ago, an immigration judge instructed her to leave the country after her request for asylum from her native Kenya was rejected.

"President Obama has promised the American public that his administration will honor the principles of open government, the Constitution and the Rule of Law," said William Gheen of ALIPAC. "Obama must either deport his aunt or destroy his own credibility by showing her favoritism."

Last year, Onyango was found living in Boston. Obama said that he didn't know that one of his relatives was living in the city illegally and believes the appropriate laws should be followed.

A spokeswoman for the Boston Housing Authority said when Onyango was given public housing she met all federal and state standards. The deportation order came a year later, according to Lydia Agro. She said the BHA was never notified of the order.

Obama's Aunt, Zeituni Onyango, Must Be Deported, Says Anti-Illegal-Immigration Group; Aunt has April Court Hearing
By Ray Stern in NewsMonday, Feb. 2 2009 @ 4:25PM

    Obama's "Auntie Zeituni"

An anti-illegal-immigration political group is calling on Barack Obama today to deport his aunt, Zeituni Onyango, who apparently remains an illegal immigrant fugitive from justice in Cleveland.

Americans for Legal Immigration posted its "public demand" on its Web site, basically telling Obama he's a hypocrite if he won't have his aunt arrested and removed to her native Kenya:

"Actions speak louder than words, Mr. President," said William Gheen. "If you do not execute the deportation order for your aunt, then your lip service about the Rule of Law is no CHANGE from George Bush."

The 56-year-old Onyanga was found living in an impoverished Boston neighborhood by the news media in October. Then, on the first of November, an Associated Press story appeared that detailed how Onyango -- now in Cleveland -- had actually been an illegal immigrant living under a deportation order for four years.

Last week, it was revealed that the Homeland Security Department under Bush had issued an order days before Obama's election that required high-level approval for fugitive immigrant arrests -- apparently to head off the inevitable media blitz that would occur if Onyango was taken into custody at the wrong time.

Onyango's story is another fascinating story of a decrepit immigration system, but ALIPAC's logic has a major flaw:
The above AP article mentions that Onyango's deportation order was stayed in December, and she now has an April court hearing.

How's that for Rule of Law? Obama has no reason to screw over his aunt by somehow having her deported before the hearing, even if he had that power.

We called Onyango's Cleveland lawyer, Margaret Wong, to find out how Obama's aunt managed to get her deportation stayed, but Wong wouldn't take our call. Instead, we were referred to a guy named Mike Rogers, "Margaret Wong's spokesman on that issue." But Rogers never called back, either.

Then we phoned ALIPAC (not to be confused with ALIPAC) at its home base in North Carolina to find out if the author of the "demand" knew about Onyango's court date.

"She's already had her day in court," the gentleman we reached snarls, pointing out she's lived in the country illegally for five years. (We couldn't get his name -- he was too busy lambasting us for various Feathered Bastard columns, some of which they post on their site).

But, as mentioned, ALIPAC is wrong -- Onyango's day in court still awaits her.

The ALIPAC article is based on a false premise.

Yea, we did not know that a judge put a stay on her deportation order.

Now, how do you think that happened????

World Net Daily added that info as well.

    Obama's aunt Zeituni Onyang

After President Obama's illegal alien aunt defied deportation orders, one group has filed an arrest request with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and is publicly demanding that the president deport her.

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, or ALIPAC, is urging Obama to honor his rhetoric about the rule of law by ousting Zeituni Onyango from the United States.

"President Obama has promised the American public that his administration will honor the principles of open government, the Constitution, and the Rule of Law," ALIPAC President William Gheen said. "Obama must either deport his aunt or destroy his own credibility by showing her favoritism."

Onyango has enlisted the help of an immigration lawyer
to help her win asylum and stay in the U.S. after ignoring a court order that she leave the country or be deported

Margaret Wong and Associates is representing Zeituni Onyango, the 56-year-old Kenyan half-sister of Obama's deceased father, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Onyango and her lawyer are scheduled to attend an immigration hearing in Boston on April 1.

Onyango, revealed in November to be dwelling on Flaherty Way in a South Boston slum, has been living in the United States illegally, and refusing to leave the U.S. for her Kenyan homeland after a judge rejected her request for asylum in 2004.

"She is currently a fugitive from justice and is staying with friends in Cleveland vowing to fight against being deported now that her nephew is president," ALIPAC contends.

The Bush administration issued a directive requiring high-level approval before agents could arrest fugitive immigrants on Oct. 31, the Associated Press reported. Immigration and Customs Enforcement documents reveal U.S. officials were concerned about implications of detaining Onyango in the days before the election.

ICE spokeswoman Kelly Nantel said the order was lifted by the end of November.

Onyango reportedly left her home in Boston public housing to escape media coverage in December. She traveled to Cleveland and hired Wong to assist her in her fight to remain in the U.S. while staying with relatives in an African immigrant community.

    ALIPAC President William Gheen

On Dec. 17, an immigration judge stayed an order to deport Onyango.

The judge reopened her case for asylum on Dec. 30, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Executive Office of Immigration Review said.

Earlier this month, Onyango attended Obama's swearing-in ceremony and an inaugural ball at Washington's Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, a historic luxury hotel, the Associated Press reported. Rogers claims she never met with the president during inaugural festivities. She arrived with her immigration lawyer as her guest.

However, ALIPAC is asking the public to contact talk radio shows, the White House and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to demand that Onyango leave the United States or face deportation by month's end.

In November 2008, Obama told Katie Couric, "If she is violating laws those laws have to be obeyed. We're a nation of laws. Obviously that doesn't lessen my concern for her, I haven't been able to be in touch with her. But I'm a strong believer you have to obey the law."

On Jan. 21, 2009, Obama said, "Let me say this as simply as I can. Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency."

"The 'rule of law,' in its most basic form, is the principle that no one is above the law," an ALIPAC statement said. "The principle is intended to be a safeguard against arbitrary governance, whether by a totalitarian leader or by mob rule. Thus, the rule of law is hostile both to dictatorship and to anarchy."

Gheen said Obama's promise means nothing if he refuses to enforce the law and send his aunt home.

"Actions speak louder than words, Mr. President," he said. "If you do not execute the deportation order for your aunt, then your lip service about the rule of law is no change from George Bush."

I called the office of the Orange Democratic Movement in Nairobi which is the Luo political dominated party and the Kenya Tourist Department and I spoke with individual Kikuyu and Luo here in the United States. There is little danger to Zeituni in going back home. Kenyans of every tribe are jubilant over the election of Obama and are looking for a windfall from tourism and American government aid for Kenya's infrastructure. If Aunt Zeituni is amnestied it will reflect badly on public safety in Kenya for any American and other tourists as and will thereby hurt the internal growth of the Kenyan economy.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Is there another ALIPAC that may stand for Americans for Lax Immigration?

ALIPAC had call Obama out to get these facts out to the public. Sure looks like they whisked Onyango away to Ohio and were going to adjust her immigration status in secret. Ironically, she will be in court on April Fools Day. How appropriate.
