Some of the most notorious and dangerous criminals in the United States are part of one gang. It's not the Bloods, it's not the Crips, but a gang called MS-13. 'Live and Direct' takes MSNBC into the streets to investgate how the gang is terrorizing neighborhoods and treating their friends and enemies with brutal, bloody force.

RITA COSBY, HOST, 'LIVE AND DIRECT': [This gang has committed one of the most] horrific crime scenes ever witnessed by law enforcement, young men, women and children brutally murdered with machetes. These innocent victims were slaughtered and dismembered for no reason at the hand of MS-13.

La Mara Salvatrucha, more commonly known as the MS-13, are considered by the FBI to be the most dangerous gang in the U.S., leaving their mark from El Salvador to Honduras to Guatemala to New Mexico, and now on U.S. soil.

In the last decade, the United States has experienced a dramatic increase in the number and size of this transnational street gang, which has quickly became a nationwide problem.

I'm tired of hearing from kids....we don't have anything to do! Then some do-gooder steps in and says we need to build them a place to hang out, etc.....

NO, these people need to be rounded up, even before they commit a crime, and shipped far away from here!

Our old neighborhood in Northern VA , was tagged with symbols of the the 18th Street gang for nearly three years. Two weeks before we moved the taggs were being crossed out in black with MS-13 over them. I got a letter from an elderly neighbor over Christmas that said things were getting so bad she was afraid to leave the house. I called the police dept and the first thing out of the Captains mouth was "We miss you!" I told him I had been reading the paper daily and he told me is is a lot worse than the paper was saying. I asked him to put my street on their regular beat and he said he was writing it on the whiteboard as we were speaking and told me to tell my neighbor to call them anytime she is not feeling safe. The taxes this year are up 33%. For a modest cape cod house the bill would now stand at 5,700 dollars. How is my neighbor going to afford that? They said it was due to the 250,000 increase in social services they were no providing to most likely illegal immigrants. Just one story from one neighborhood, I am sure there are thousands more.
