Five Arrested in Beating of Collinsville High School Student
See Video at Link
Police in Dekalb County have arrested four men and one juvenile for allegedly beating up a Collinsville High School student.
All five were charged with assault. Four were taken to the Dekalb County Jail and the juvenile to another facility. Authorities say the suspects assaulted the victim who refused to join their gang.
The alleged gang attack is causing concern for some folks in the small town.
In downtown Collinsville it's a common sight to see gang graffiti on several buildings. Because of that and this recent act of violence some residents are speaking out.
Jimmy Carter, former Collinsville Mayor, says, "I don't think they're good and we don't need them at all, because of the negative influence they have on children and young people."
Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris says, "We always want to disrupt and dismantle and identify any type of gang activity or new gang starting and make an arrest if we can."
The victim, who attends Collinsville High School, was not seriously hurt. The incident did not happen on school grounds.
