The Department of Homeland Security will not renew the Temporary Protected Status designation that has allowed the Salvadorans to remain in the United States since at least 2001, when their country was struck by a pair of devastating earthquakes, according to multiple people with knowledge of the plan.
Individuals will have until September 2019 to leave or seek other means to obtain lawful residency. DHS will make its formal announcement later this morning, these people said.
The decision is likely to please immigration hard-liners who argue the TPS program was never intended to provide long-term residency.

18 months???? What kind of crap is that? 6 months I could understand, but 18 months doesn't even make sense. I agree with William that the 18 month window is being given to allow the congress the time to come up with a legalization plan for those that can't figure out a loophole to become legal!

Those were my thoughts exactly. I was like "what the f**k, almost 2 years before they get deported!!!" I think this is deliberately done for 2 reasons. One, is exactly as you just said, to give them time to find a loophole to stay, or make congress change their mind and give them outright citizenship. And two, it would give them time to start breeding as many of their little brat anchor babies as they can before that deadline. That way our politicians can say "well look, they have American born children now, we have to give them citizenship".
