BREAKING: Paris mayor announces plan for migrant camp

THE mayor of the French capital has announced a camp for migrants is to be set up in the north of Paris within the next six weeks.

This announcement would be the first refugee and migrant camp approved by the town-hall in the city.

It comes at a time when hundreds of migrants are camping rough in the city.

Mayor Anne Hidalgo said: "Today, Europe is not facing up to the humanitarian crisis of these refugees. Nor is our own country.

"Paris will not stand by and do nothing as the Mediterranean becomes a graveyard of refugees."

"We have identified several sites in the north of Paris."

In a Twitter post Anne Hidalgo added: "The accommodation will be able to be flexible and quickly installed. #RefugeesWelcome".

It is expected to open in roughly a month's time and is expected be for overnight accomodation as well as day time facilities.
