    CHESAPEAKE

A 22-year-old man has been convicted as a pimp for his role in a prostitution ring that police said operated in a trailer court near the Virginia Beach border.

Circuit Judge Bruce Kushner sentenced Efingel Landero-Javier to three years in prison on Tuesday for felony pandering. All but three months of the sentence was suspended, provided Landero-Javier remain on good behavior for three years, pay court costs and cooperate with deportation officials.

State Police arrested six people in November and shut down what they described as a brothel at Providence Mobile Court at 1100 S. Military Hwy. Police said the brothel operated seven days a week.

Landero-Javier, represented by Senior Assistant Public Defender David Jones, entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to the charge. A misdemeanor charge of aiding prostitution by transporting a person to a place for the purpose of prostitution was withdrawn against him last month in Chesapeake General District Court.

With the use of a Spanish interpreter, Landero-Javier told the court he understood the charge against him, which carried up to 10 years in prison.

Landero-Javier told authorities that after entering the United States illegally in May 2005, he met a man who put him to work as a housekeeper and money collector in the prostitution operation. He said he was paid about $300 a week.

The defendants in the alleged ring are being prosecuted in both general district and circuit courts.

Margaret Townsen, 40, of Chesapeake was convicted of prostitution in December, sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to pay $227 in court costs.

A misdemeanor prostitution charge against Lucila Cazares-Gomez, 32, of Baltimore was withdrawn in December.

A prostitution charge is pending against Francisca Arias-De Rey, 50, of the Bronx, N.Y.

Herman Roberto Perez-Nolasco, 33, of Chesapeake was convicted in January for solicitation of prostitution and ordered to pay $82 in court costs.

A pandering charge is pending against Alexander Landero-Martinez, 22, of Chesapeake.
